321 W Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Covington, KY, USA
Join us during National Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month for an evening of celebration and exploration of Latin American literature and advocacy!
This event will feature a panel of local Latine poets, Andrea Swanson (Perú) & Silvia McClamrock (Cuba), who will share original poetry as well as stories about the creative process spanning geographies, cultures, and languages. The panel follows a brief "book talk" by Bear & Duck Books -- a local independent bookstore in Covington, KY -- sharing Latine storytelling & imagination as it appears in popular literature, including works by Isabel Allende, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Gloria Anzaldúa, Javier Zamora, among others.
Tabling during this event will feature efforts and opportunities in local advocacy with Esperanza Latino Center, Kentucky Refugee Ministries, and Kentuckians for the Commonwealth. Learn how you can support these Covington leaders in advocacy!
For book lovers, there will be a bookstore pop-up by Bear & Duck Books with popular titles in both English & Spanish, including literature presented in the book talk and the poetry of local Poet Laureate Manuel Iris. 20% of book proceeds will go back towards the local advocacy of Esperanza Latino Center and Kentucky Refugee Ministries.
Come out and celebrate the cultural and literary impact of Latine writers, listen to beautiful poetry, and discover new books and new opportunities to get involved with local advocacy!
We look forward to meeting you there! Nos vemos!
